Suni’s Traditional Mantra & Mudra session was a deeply enriching and heart-opening experience, rooted in devotion, storytelling, and shared sound.
Before we even began chanting, Suni set the tone with great care and reverence. "Prior to any workshop, I 'marinate' in the stories of my childhood," Suni shared. "I re-read them, listen to them, and go over them. Each time brings forth another nuance, another facet of these ancient stories to life." This heartfelt preparation was palpable throughout the session.
In honour of Narasimha Jayanti, Suni lovingly recounted the powerful myth of Narasimha, one of the ten avatars of Vishnu. Her storytelling brought the tale vividly to life — the mighty demon king Hiranyakashipu, the unwavering devotion of his son Prahlada, and the awe-inspiring emergence of Narasimha, the half-man, half-lion form who appears at the threshold of all binaries to restore cosmic balance. The story, both fierce and compassionate, reminded us of the protective and unexpected ways divine justice manifests.
Throughout the storytelling, Suni gently guided us through ‘inner fire generating’ yoga movements designed to open the body and settle the mind in preparation for chanting. Her knowledge and clarity helped us understand not just the meaning of the mantra, but also its resonance when moving. Padma Mudra accompanied many asanas representing purity, spiritual awakening, and the unfolding of the heart. Suni explained ‘Just like the lotus rises untouched through muddy waters, it symbolises our ability to remain centred and open-hearted amidst life's challenges’
Chanting ‘Om Narasiḿhāya Namah’ in a call-and-response format created a sense of unity and upliftment. As our voices merged, rising and falling in harmony, there was a tangible shift — the sound reverberated not just through the room, but through each of us. It was moving, joyful, and grounding all at once.
We then entered into a full 108 rounds of chanting, allowing the mantra to truly settle within. The silence that followed was rich with presence and peace — the kind of stillness that lingers long after the session ends.
Suni offered this space with such warmth, humility, and respect for tradition. It was more than a class — it was a sacred experience shared in community.
A truly beautiful session that nourished the heart and spirit.

A wonderful group of yogis xx
