Spending a day in the luminous presence of international yoga teacher Lucy McCarthy was nothing short of transformative. This special Celebration Day, carefully curated and masterfully delivered, was an elegant weaving of ancient yoga philosophy with deeply personal and relatable storytelling, bringing the wisdom of yoga into sharp, vibrant relevance for our modern lives.

From the moment we stepped onto our mats, Lucy invited us into a container of reverence, spaciousness, and authenticity. The day began with “The Power of Pranayama,” a full-hour immersion into the subtle and profound art of yogic breathwork. Rooted in the teachings of the Upanishads and Hatha Yoga Pradiprika, Lucy reminded us that Pranayama is not just a breathing technique—it is a spiritual technology for awakening. Her teaching style made these esoteric ideas accessible, grounding them in personal stories that resonated with the challenges and beauty of being human. By the end of the session, we were collectively more attuned, vibrant, and filled with a renewed sense of inner aliveness—charged with Prana, yet deeply grounded.

The mid-morning session, “Removing the Armour from the Sacred Heart,” was a journey of gentle dismantling—a full-spectrum practice that moved with intention through mudra and asana. The Hridaya, or spiritual heart, became the centre of our exploration, not as an abstract concept, but as a lived and felt presence. Lucy spoke with vulnerability and depth about the ways we all—through life’s inevitable wounding—learn to close off or harden, and how yoga offers a compassionate path back to tenderness and connection. Her ability to integrate philosophical teachings like duhkha (suffering) and samvit (inner knowing) into a felt, embodied experience was powerful. As layers fell away, what remained was a quiet intimacy and the unmistakable essence of yoga as union.

After a nourishing, freshly prepared vegan lunch shared in warm community, the afternoon opened into a soul-stirring “Journey to the Temple of Inner Ecstasy.” This session was equal parts Svadhyaya , anatomy of the subtle body, and Nidra-based integration. Lucy guided us through the koshas—the sheaths of being—with poetic clarity, linking each layer to real-life experiences and emotions. Rather than remaining in theory, she invited us to feel the journey from the dense to the subtle, from the body to bliss. Her reflections on anandamaya kosha (the bliss sheath) were especially poignant, not as a destination, but as an essence we can remember and return to.

The final Yoga Nidra practice was an immersive return inward, where the teachings of the day settled like threads weaving wholeness through body, mind, and spirit.
What stood out most across the day was Lucy’s capacity to live the teachings. Yoga philosophy wasn’t delivered as dogma, but as a gentle hand offered across time—ancient wisdom refracted through the lens of personal truth and shared humanity. Her storytelling brought laughter and insight making the abstract tangible and the sacred real.
In a world often focused on doing, this day was a profound reminder of the power of being. A true celebration of yoga in its fullest expression: as breath, movement, stillness, connection, and ultimately, love.
With much gratitude

A wonderful group of yogis xx
