Dave Tipper's Earth Resonance morning workshop on Saturday 11th June

The setup itself was a treat for the eyes. Dave, a sound therapist and practicing Druid, stood on a small oriental rug of rich reds while behind him an impressive array of very large, shining gongs, each hanging on their own stand, exerted a strong presence of their own. Laid out around him were singing bowls, a circle of 13 drums (similar to outsize tambourines), and a beautiful oak leaf wreath scattered with pink rose petals and encircling objects representing the elements, for this is the Season of the Oak.

We began with some proto-Celtic chanting which led us into a series of standing movements to enhance awareness of our own bodies and the space around and above us.

Next, we all formed a double semicircle to play the drums, half of us gently tapping their vegan skins as the other half closed their eyes to lose themselves in the vibrations before exchanging roles.

Then... a full Sound Bath! Dave invited us to lie down and sink into our unconscious minds via the ancient, elemental sounds that were to wash over us for the next 45 minutes. It began with the sound of thousands of tiny shells showering all around us - or was it a desert wind in dry grasses… or…? Each of us had our own interpretation of what we were hearing. After fading away, the new and much deeper sound of the gongs began to swell until it reached a roaring crescendo before eventually dying away into a profound silence.
It was hard to believe that only one person had been responsible for creating this complex world of noise for us.

The morning was a wonderful experience of awakening contact with our inner worlds, while at the same time fostering a sense of warmth and togetherness among those who attended.

Thank you Dave

Sarah Rush's morning of YIN YOGA on 14th May

Sarah had promised us a beautifully quiet morning of Yin Yoga and that is precisely what we got. It also felt deeply transformative.

She chose a variety of mainly restorative postures, each of which related in some way to the meridians of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture. We were encouraged to hold them for between 3 and 5 minutes, and for each posture we were encouraged to reflect on a particular aspect of our lives right now. She posed a question for each posture such as: what makes you angry right now? What do you feel is holding you back? What are you most proud of? What are you currently most grateful for?

On coming out of the posture, we were given time to jot down our thoughts on paper without too much "overthinking".

As time went on, there was a growing sense of acceptance, both mentally and physically, as body and mind settled into each shape, together with a strong sense of being in the NOW. It felt very restful. At the same time there was a growing awareness that this practice was taking us to some very deep places. By the end of the 2-hour session there was a general acknowledgement that we had been on a long journey through our individual, internal landscapes and, interestingly, I felt exhausted and yet had hardly moved physically. A fascinating morning...

Thank you Sarah

A big THANK YOU to all SYA members !

Message received from Rachel Funnell - Piam Brown Ward Charity Coordinator

On behalf of all the families and staff on Piam Brown Ward, I am writing to thank you very much indeed for your latest generous donation of £250.00 to our fund. This kind and generous gift will really help Southampton Hospital Charity in its work to improve patient care.

At Southampton Hospital Charity, we bring people together to raise life-changing funds for Piam Brown, the Wessex Children's Cancer Unit at Southampton Children's Hospital. Every donation we receive really does make a difference for our children.

We are regularly investing in new craft, toys and games to help entertain our youngsters, as well as improving the environment for adults and children alike who may have to spend many weeks here on the unit. We also support patient family and staff wellbeing which is a hugely important part of our work. Your contribution to the Charity will make our patients journeys that little bit easier.

It was a great pleasure to hear that Julia had run another charity yoga session on our behalf, thank you all so much, it really is appreciated. All the staff on the ward really do appreciate your efforts, thank you.

I do hope you will be able to continue supporting Piam Brown. Its support from the community that makes much of what we do possible. With your help, we can enhance care and experience for hundreds of patients every year. Thank you once again; we are all very grateful for your support.

With best wishes
